Arena Patch: Elo K Adjustment & Upset Bonus
Arena Scoring Overhaul.
Live at midnight tonight for day 3 of 7.
The current system has a problem. Mid-pack stack +3 wins by hunting peer-cluster opponents, and top user level players see +1 / +2 wins because there's no one rated near them. We're fixing this so those ranked at the highest levels have a fairer playing field in-line with the rest - without this change, it would remain punishing to the highest level players and be impossible to rank high.
Two Changes.
Base K Doubled.
The K-factor that drives every Elo swing has been raised from 5 to 10. What this means in practice:
- Mid-pack peer fights are now ~+5 / −5 instead of +3 / −3
- Top-tier near-peer fights become meaningful again
- Losses sting properly — you can't grind through bad fights without consequence
Upset Bonus.
Beat someone rated above you and you'll earn an extra +1 point for every 25 rating points they're above you.
K still scales upwards based on significantly higher level x significantly higher rating. Winning those fights reward you properly as they should.
Any further adjustments to Arena will come as Season 2 Arena starts.
